Eye Infections Jump Sharply Following Eyeball Licking Craze Among Youth in Japan
A bizarre fetish of expressing affection among Japanese youth is putting their health at risk after experts warned that the practice of licking eyeballs has raised the number of eye infections and could even lead to blindness.
The practice, known as ‘oculolinctus’ or ‘worming’, has increased in popularity in recent months with a number of videos being posted on YouTube featuring with couples licking eyeballs of their partners.

While many claim to love it, comparing it to toesucking, medical experts have said that such a practice is leading to increasing rates of conjunctivitis and eye-chlamydia and warned that it may even cause blindness.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, San Diego ophthalmologist Dr David Granet said, “Nothing good can come of this. There are ridges on the tongue that can cause a corneal abrasion. And if a person hasn't washed out their mouth, they might put acid from citrus products or spices into the eye.”
