Experts Warn About Fallacy of High Street Fertility Tests

by Rajashri on Oct 20 2009 9:34 PM

Fertility experts have warned women not to fall a victim to High Street fertility tests that given them a false sense of assurance and enable them to delay conceiving.

“You might think ‘I have fabulous ovarian reserve’ on these tests but of course if one’s fallopian tubes are blocked or one’s partner does not have fabulous sperm then you can have false reassurance," Stuart Lavery, a consultant gynaecologist at Hammersmith Hospital in London told the Daily Telegraph.

But he said the tests could help women understand what their chances of success may be should they opt for IVF treatments.

The tests cost £176 per piece and could leave women struggling to become a mother after they delay getting pregnant based on the false assurances provided by these tests.
