Norwegian researchers have revealed that exercise during pregnancy prevents weight gain in newborn infants. Their study found that if women stayed active during pregnancy, their chances of delivering a big baby dropped by as much as 28 percent.
Data from the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort study was used in this particular assessment. That study had information on nearly 37,000 women, whose pregnancies were of 37 weeks duration. Information on their exercise routine was collected at weeks 17 and 30 of the pregnancies.
Twenty-nine percent of women reported exercising one to two times weekly and this group had a 28% less chance of delivering big babies. Newborn weight is a massive issue and if it exceeds 8.8 pounds, there are complications like C-sections, postpartum hemorrhage and low Apgar scores.
