Exercise During Pregnancy may Not Prevent Weight Gain in Overweight Women
While it is often recommended that overweight women exercise regularly during their pregnancy in order to shed any extra weight, a new study conducted in Brazil has found that exercising does not prevent overweight women from gaining additional weight.
The study was conducted by researchers from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland who observed 82 overweight women during the second trimester of their pregnancy.

Half of the women received standard counseling on prenatal care while the remaining half received extensive counseling on nutrition and weight gain and were also sent to exercise classes.

The researchers found that both groups of women gained more weight than the recommended limit. It is recommended that overweight women should not gain more than 15 and 25 pounds while obese women should not gain more than 11 to 20 pounds during pregnancy.
