A researcher at the University of Michigan has revealed that estrogen exerts the same effects in women as testosterone does in men. Working in collaboration with German researcher Oliver Schultheiss of Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Steven Stanton of the University of Michigan found that estrogen fueled feelings of power in women.
"We put women in this study in a face-to-face contest where they competed on a computer task for 10 rounds," Stanton said. "Following each round, they were told whether they won or lost and they could watch each other's reaction to winning or losing."The facial reactions of the participants were noted as was the level of estrogen from the saliva sample taken right after the tests.
"The higher the women were in estrogen, they higher they were in this measure of power motivation," researchers revealed saying that if power-motivated women won then their estrogen levels went down and these levels shot up if they lost.
The study published is in the journal Hormones and Behaviour
