Government General Hospital in Ernakulam (Kerala) Retains National Level Accreditation

Kerala Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said that the national-level accreditations bagged by government hospitals in Kerala stands testimony of the State’s achievements in the health sector. He was speaking after handing over the accreditation certificate of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) to the Ernakulam General Hospital authorities in Kochi on May 7.

The minister also said that government hospitals managed the feat by complying with various parameters and providing facilities on a par with private hospitals. Sivakumar further said that efforts are on to develop a taluk hospital, a primary health center, and at least two community health centers in the state to match high standards.

The general hospital received the accreditation in 2011. It is the fourth in the government sector to get NABH accreditation. The hospital retained the accreditation meeting nearly 102 guidelines and 636 recommendations of the Quality Council of India.

The accreditation enabled the hospital access to various facilities and equipment including sign boards, chairs, pure drinking water, token system, medical record library, two new anaesthesia work stations, power laundry, renovated canteen, theatre complex, haemodialysis unit, digital x ray unit, MRI scan and New Born care center. The hospital also conducts training and mock drills for its employees.
