Residents of Mayur Vihar and other areas of east Delhi will finally be able to unclog their lungs in a soon-to-be-developed neighborhood park. The eight-km stretch which spans up to 300 meters and runs along the Noida link road is set to be taken over by the Uttar Pradesh government and to be executed by the Noida Authority. The park will be christened after Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram, it is expected.

According to landscape architect Surendra Suneja, the chief-in-control here, the park which will boast a golf course, children’s play area and a rose garden among other features , can definitely be a place where people can take walks, have fun with their children or just relax and breathe in clean fresh air. There is a plan to charge visitors an entry fee.

The park is also touted to meet the recreational needs of people living in east Delhi and who do not have sufficient green public spaces, says Suneja, who is also head, landscape architecture department, School of Planning and Architecture.

“The project has been planned with environmental sensitivity. Only those plant and tree species that are found in the riverine eco-system of the Yamuna will be planted. There will be no exotic plant and tree species,” says Suneja. His previous projects include the Kalindi Kunj Park in Okhla and the Sur Yamuna Ghat in Wazirabad.

According to a senior official of the Noida Authority , the land along the ‘bundh’ road was with the Flood and Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh. A decision to transfer the land to the Noida Authority was taken six weeks ago, he adds.

Suneja also gives that there would be no construction or civil works in the park. The clover-leaf structures to be added to the Akshardham flyover on either side is expected to be integrated with the project .
