E-Cigarettes to be Treated as Tobacco Products by FDA

The US Food and Drug Administration has revealed that it will not be appealing in the Supreme Court against the decision taken by the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington DC and said that it will be treating electronic cigarettes as tobacco products. The FDA had wanted to consider E-cigarettes as drug devices but later found that more than half of the 19 e-cigarettes brands contained a carcinogen known as nitrosamines which is also present in real cigarettes as well as diethylene glycol, a poisonous ingredient in antifreeze.

"The government has decided not to seek further review of this decision, and FDA will comply with the jurisdictional lines established by (the circuit court decision),” said a released statement from the FDA.

E-cigarettes have quickly become one of the most popular alternatives for smokers who are trying to kick the butt. The electronic cigarettes heats nicotine derived from tobacco and suspended in a fluid canister and releases water vapor instead of smoke.
