ADT Johannesburg head Roy Rawlins said that in the western parts of Johannesburg, crime reports decreased by 70 percent, while the eastern parts saw a 60 percent drop.

He said it was due to "visible policing combined with the strategic use of resources for the World Cup".

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Colonel Vishnu Naidoo confirmed that the World Cup saw a drop in crime.
