In the inaugural address, Dr. Kalam shared his views on developed and developing countries. Marketing products to other countries competitively by ensuring quality of products, cost effectiveness and timely supply would make a country, an empowered nation.

He wished that India becomes an economically developed nation, and envisage a country where the rural-urban divide was minimal by 2020 and where there was equitable distribution and adequate access to energy and quality water.
