 Doctors Protest Against Attacks in Hospitals
Medical professionals from private and government hospitals in Bengaluru came together at Freedom Park on March 16 to protest against the attacks by patients and their families. As many as 4,000 medical professionals took part in the protest.
Doctors representing from various associations such as the Medical Council of India (MCI), the Karnataka Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) and the Association of Health Providers India (APHI) staged a four-hour dharna at Freedom Park.

Doctors demanded better working conditions and strict enforcement of existing laws and action against those attacking health-care personnel.

Dr Nagendra S C, president of Private Hospital and Nursing Homes Association and vice-president Dr C Jayanna submitted a memorandum to Home Minister K J George, seeking effective implementation of the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009.

Doctors said that, “Being a doctor has become very stressful. There is lack of freedom to function.”

Dr. Nagendra realled the latest incident wherein the family of an H1N1 patient vandalized Mahaveer Jain Hospital, alleging medical negligence.

Home Minister K J George and MLA Dr Ashwath Narayan C N met the protesters and assured them of steps to be taken to protect them.
