Doctors Implant the Very First Ellipse Implantable Carvioverter Defibrillator in Kolkata

For the first time in the eastern region of India, doctors at Apollo Gleneagles Heart Institute implanted the ellipse implantable carvioverter defibrillator (ICD) which is touted as the smallest high energy ICD which is MRI compatible to a patient.

The Ellipse ICD's innovative design adds safety features that help to minimize such complications when the implanted device is exposed to MRI scanning," said Dr Suvro Banerjee, senior consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Apollo Gleneagles Heart Institutes, Kolkata. Banerjee used the implant on a patient from Assam at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals in Kolkata in July. The patient came with an abnormally high heart rate that may lead to sudden cardiac death.
