The excess fluids that was detected during a routine scan in the abdominal cavity of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, was drained by the doctors who was attending on him, hospital sources said.

Doctors at Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Wednesday described Sharon's condition as unchanged after the procedure, the online news service Ynet reported.

He was in serious but stable condition, remained on a respirator and was not sedated, they said.

The procedure was carried out on Sharon, 77, who has been in coma for seven weeks after suffering a stroke Jan 4. An emergency surgery was carried out 10 days back to remove part of his large intestine.
