A dinner party came to an abrupt end when a guest discovered bodies in the freezer. The bodies belonged to the host Didier Charron’s wife Chantal, 46, and son Bryan 11.
The female guest opened the freezer while helping to clear up after a dinner with a group of friends Tuesday at the man's home in the city of Verviers, 78 miles east of Brussels, and discovered the bodies. The guest fled the house and called the police. The police immediately detained the man.
It is believed that the bodies have been kept in the freezer for several weeks.
Christine Wilwerth of the city prosecutor's office said the suspect acknowledged that a domestic quarrel had escalated and his wife had been stabbed, but she said he had not explained the circumstances of the child's death. Mr. Charron, 42, who will appear in court today, was Bryan’s stepfather and was well known to police for his violent rows with his wife.
It seemed that the wife was a victim of domestic abuse. She had announced several weeks before her murder that she had wanted a divorce on grounds of continual beating and violence from her husband.
It was the suspect who explained that the boy’s body was underneath his mother’s. Since the freezer is very narrow he could not be seen at first,” Ms Wilwerth said. “Even if he did not make a complete confession, lots of elements are against him. He indicated that he had had a violent row with his wife in the course of which he seized a knife.

The prosecutor added that the police had intervened on several occasions to break up disputes between the couple. There was a thick file on him, she said.
