Dieticians Must Help Patients Create Action Plans
Researchers at McGill's Department of Psychology have suggested that dieticians should ditch the traditional method of just advising their patients on what to eat and what not to eat and should instead help them create actions plans and make their visualize carrying it out.
Lead researcher Barbel Knauper said that the traditional method is not working at all with the patients quickly losing motivation to continue sticking to their diets.

Knauper and and her research team conducted a study in which they found that those students who visualized themselves eating more fruits over a period of one week actually managed to do that.

In fact those who followed the visualization path ate two times more fruit in the next seven days compared to those who tried to follow their diet without any planning. “Research has shown that if people make a concrete plan about what they are going to do, they are better at acting on their intentions. What we've done that's new is to add visualization techniques to the action plan”, Knauper said.
