Despite Risk of SIDS, More Parents Share Beds With Infants
Even though studies have shown that sleeping with their infants on the same beds increases the risk of death due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), a new report published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics reveals that the number of parents or caregivers who sleep with their infants has grown significantly over the recent years.
According to the study the number of parents or caregivers who shared their beds with infants was seven percent in 199, it has doubled to 14 percent in 2010.

Such a practice was more prevalent among blacks, where it increased from 21 percent to 39 percent, and Hispanics, where it was 21 percent, up from 13 percent during the same period.

“The disparity in nighttime habits has increased in recent years. Because African-American infants are already at increased risk for SIDS, this trend is a cause for concern”, lead researcher Eve Colson of the Yale University School of Medicine said.
