Delhi Lt. Governor to Pay Surprise Visits to Check Dengue Preparedness
With the national capital battling a dengue epidemic, Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung has said that he will conduct surprise visits to various places in Delhi to check the preparedness for prevention of dengue. Jung is also expected to visit the Delhi Metro construction sites to see the preparedness in checking breeding of larvae.
The Lt. Governor had held a meeting at Raj Niwas to review the dengue situation, and directed municipal corporations to mount full-scale efforts to control dengue through source reduction. Jung asked municipal corporations to follow a targeted approach, based on pockets of high incidence. He directed them to follow a roster for checking breeding of larvae and to carry out planned fumigation.

Jung has asked the Delhi Development Authority to take special care at construction sites to check breeding of mosquito larvae. He has also directed the Northern Railway to carry out anti-larval spraying.

Jung directed the health department and municipal bodies to generate more awareness about prevention and cure for dengue through advertisements, radio spots and posters. Jung urged the health department to use public address systems mounted on vehicles to spread awareness, together with the distribution of leaflets informing people about the do's and don'ts regarding dengue.

The Lt. Governor also directed the health department to ensure that hospitals, clinics and laboratories in the city do not turn away any critical dengue patient. Jung said, "Though the hospitals and staff are under tremendous pressure, they must rise to the occasion to meet the challenge. The health department should involve senior school children in spreading awareness in localities and neighborhoods."

This meeting was attended by senior officials of the health department, Delhi Development Authority, municipal corporations, Delhi Cantonment Board, Northern Railway, National Vector Borne Disease Control Program and National Center for Disease Control among others.
