 Delhi High Court Slams Apollo Hospital
The Delhi High Court today ruled that health care is a fundamental right and asked Indraprastha Apollo Hospital to reserve at leas 200 beds for the poor and to provide free treatment as well.

A division bench of chief justice A P Shah and justice Manmohan directed the hospital to keep its agreement with the state government and provide free treatment to 40% of poor patients in OPD and 33% in Indoor Patient Department..

"Poor people have been deprived of their right to free treatment and right to health is a fundamental right of every citizen... not only the government but also individual, group of individuals and NGOs are obliged to ensure it,'' the court said.

The ruling was made following a PIL filed by NGO All India Lawyers Union. The hospital has also been fined Rs 2 lakh.
