Daily Walks for 90 Minutes can Reduce Risk of Stroke in Men
A new study published in the journal Stroke suggests that walking for 90-minutes every day can cut down the risk of strokes in men by more than a third.
The study was conducted by researchers at University College London who surveyed over 3,400 healthy men between 60 and 80 years of age and asked them about the total distance they walked every week and the pace at which they walked.

The researchers found that the risk of stroke among those who walked between eight to 14 hours was a third less than those who walked less or did not walk at all and the risk lowered by two thirds among those who walked more than 22 hours a week. The researchers did not find any such benefit among those who walked less but at a faster pace.

“The total time spent walking was more consistently protective against stroke than walking pace; overall it seemed that accumulating more time walking was most beneficial. Our findings suggest that regular walking each week could be an important part of stroke prevention strategies in older people”, lead researcher Dr Barbara Jefferis said.
