Reacting to this move, Claire Brown, of Infertility Network UK said she was horrified, "I think many people underestimate the emotional and physical impact of infertility," she added.
According to the National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence (Nice), infertile couples are entitled to at least three IVF cycles. A leaked document from PCT on Radio Stoke said that IVF treatments should not be commissioned and should only be considered in a "young woman with cancer who has no children."
North Staffordshire PCT clarified that the general health of
the patients would always be taken into consideration, "just that specific fertility treatments should not be commenced with no prospect of them being continued."
