Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) authorities launched a crackdown on eight tanneries in Jajmau, sealing two of the tanneries.

The second tannery was closed down after complaints from a local who said that the noise coming out of the tannery had led to the collapse of a wall in his house.
“One of the residents had complained to the district administration that the wall of a house had collapsed due to the vibrations produced by the tannery, which is located adjacent to the house. The tannery was thus sealed and its owner was served notice to shut down the unit as its operation may damage the house”, UPPCB regional officer, Radhey Shyam said.
