Crackdown on Adulterated Food

The Indian Food and Drug Administration cracked down on adulterated food items and carried out series of raids in Pune, netting adulterated items worth more than Rs 38.29 lakh. The FDA also revealed that more than 3,200 kg of adulterated khoya was also seized prior to the raids with an oil plant of Kargil India Pvt Ltd in Kurkumbh, in Daund taluka accounting for more than Rs 32 lakhs of adulterated mustard oil being sold under popular brands such as Gemini and Nature Fresh.

Over 700 kg of adulterated chilly powder from Neeti Gruha Udyog in Avasari Khurd, Rs 42,000 worth adulterated chilly powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder from MRM Foods and Spices Pvt Ltd at Market Yard were also seized.

Says senior food inspector Mohan Kembalkar, “The raids are part of our continuous vigil to keep a check on the supply of adulterated food items in the market, ahead of the festive season. Barring the raid on Thursday, in which 3,200 kg adulterated khoya (a milk product) was seized from the city, the FDA's Pune office has carried out as many as seven raids in which the adulterated food items worth Rs 38.29 lakh were seized.”
