Counting Calorie Intake With Lunch Trays
A $2 million research project has been launched at five San Antonio elementary schools which will photograph the lunch trays of students before they begin to eat.
A photograph of the lunch trays are also taken after the student has finished the meal. Each tray has a unique bar code, and the code is matched to the student’s name.

Later, a computer program is used to analyze the photos and find out each piece of food on the plate. The program also measures the calorie intake of each student.

Parents will get to see the data of their children.

Researchers are hoping that the scores will motivate parents to alter eating habits at home after knowing what kids choose to eat at school.
