Consuming Small Breakfast Conducive to Weight Loss
Eating a smaller breakfast in the morning could help people reduce weight as they do not consume more calories later on in the day in order to compensate for the smaller portions.
The study was conducted by researchers at Medical Research Council (MRC) Human Nutrition Research Unit and included around 33 overweight people, some of whom were given smaller portions of the breakfast which involved cereal, milk, scrambled egg, ham, brown toast with butter and orange juice.

The researchers then measured the amount of calories that they ate over the rest of the day and found that eating a smaller breakfast did not result in consumption of higher amounts of calories. The researchers added that such a step could see people eat up to 269 fewer calories in a day, though they were quick to add that more research is needed in order to test it out in real life.

“This research was done with people in a controlled laboratory environment and more work is required to determine if the effect remains in real life where there are more opportunities to eat”, Dr Susan Jebb, who is the Head of Diet & Population Health at the MRC Human Nutrition Research Unit, said.
