Condom Snorting Could Lead to Health Issues

Condom Snorting Could Lead to Health Issues

With condom snorting emerging as the latest viral video craze in Britain and the US, health experts have slammed the practice as 'remarkably stupid' and warned that it may lead to dangerous and embarrassing consequences.

'The Condom Challenge' took off following a video uploaded on YouTube by teenager Amber-Lynn Strong in April 2013 and though the video was later taken down by the video sharing site, a number of similar videos have since been uploaded, including one where a mother in US expressed her horrified disapproval at the practice.

Health experts have also warned that the practice could pose a slight health risk, though social embarrassment is a more likely possibility.

Says Dr Joe Kosterich, a leading physician in Australia, "Although it is highly unlikely to be fatal it could trigger a coughing fit in some. The nasal linings could get irritated but this would be annoying rather than serious. There may be some embarrassed people arriving at Emergency Departments or doctors rooms though, as the condom is soft it will not permanently damage the nasal linings, however it could get stuck and thus have to be removed."
