Concerns Over Prescription Drug Addictions

 Concerns Over Prescription Drug Addictions
Drug addiction support groups have expressed concerns over a possible new wave of medicine addiction following reports that a pharmaceutical company could soon be marketing a new painkiller drug that is said to be 10 times stronger than Vicodin.
Four different pharmaceutical companies have currently started human trials of pure hydrocodone, which is a highly addictive painkiller. One of the companies, San Diego’s Zogenix, is expected to apply for approval to bring the drug into the market under the brand name Zohydro.

However drug addiction support groups are worried that the approval could trigger a new wave of drug abuse as the abusers can simply crush the pills to get an intense and immediate high. Should the drug be approved, it will be the first time that the pure version of hydrocodone will be available in the market as current form of drugs combine it with non-addictive painkillers such as acetaminophen.
