Complaint Filed By Maharashtra Medical Council Over Fake Message Spreading In Social Media
The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) was prompted to file a complaint at the Agripada police station due to a “mischievous” message against doctors which is going around on the social media.
The incorrect message states that the High Court (HC) has directed a change in the MBBS nomenclature on the basis of a representation made by a homeopathic practitioner. "The MMC categorically denies any such move. The message is not based on facts," said Dr Kishor Taori, MMC president.

The message claims that the HC has asked MBBS doctors to write their degrees as BMBS and not MBBS. Dr Taori said that the message mentioned the HC as well as a statutory body like the MMC and its chairman. "We request the police to investigate this mischievous post and book the culprit under the relevant laws governing cyber crime," he added.

Meanwhile, the MMC wants to step up its campaign against unrecognized medical degrees. "We want the state to develop a mechanism to verify educational documents and certificates of doctors," said Dr Taori. He said that many local doctors mentioned such unrecognized medical degrees in their letterheads and clinics, thus misleading the public. "However, many doctors who have completed unrecognized degrees offered by some universities in Seychelles have agreed to not mention it anymore."
