Commendable Memory of Great Apes

The great apes have great memory just like humans, a recent finding reveals. Research found that they can also recall certain incidents which happened years ago. Experiments revealed that they were able to associate and connect to a present event just with a reminder of a similar incident in the past.

Numerous past experiments with apes conducted by the same team of scientists led the study leader to remark, ‘I was surprised to find out not only that they remembered the event that took place three years ago, but also that they did it so fast’.

The apes were in a position to distinguish between past events which were similar involving tasks, locations and people. ‘Our data and other evidence challenge the idea of non-human animals being stuck in time.’
