Cole Slaw in Fast Food Joints Fattier Than Meat and Fries

A study by a food watchdog showed that a tub of coleslaw at KFC contains more fat than its chicken or fries. While the KFC fillet burger contained 15.6g of fat and a large portion of fries had 19.4g, a large coleslaw had 22.4g of fat in it.

Subway's Veggie Patty Sub, which many think to be healthiest because it is meat-free, has 414 calories. But a turkey, ham, bacon and cheese patty contains 351, while steak and cheese have just 336.

A survey of 66 leading nutrition and obesity experts at a recent obesity conference in Geneva found few of them could tell from a menu description which item was the least healthy option.

'At the moment, customers have to rely on guesswork if they want to make healthier choices,' said Anna Glayzer, a spokeswoman for the Food Commission.
