by Medindia Content Team on Nov 27 2007 5:17 PM

The psychology departments in three universities of Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea have made Wales a force to reckon with in all of Europe. The three universities stand out for their contributions and have managed to garner grants of £11 million in three years.

The Welsh Assembly has added one more landmark in Wales by building the multi-centre Wales Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (WICN).

Many world class researchers have been hired for WICN. This institute will combine the expertise of the three psychology faculties of Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea Universities to establish a premier institute for the understanding of cognitive and clinical neuroscience.

Conferences and research projects have been kick started among the three institutes. Public seminars are also being organized along with many programmes in schools and colleges. The idea behind these awareness programmes is to educate young minds on the immense career possibilities in the discipline of cognitive neuroscience.

Cognitive neuroscience research has enhanced the understanding of the functions of the brain. It has also helped in the better management of brain impairments due to brain disorders, stroke, or head injury.
