The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is jointly organizing its fifth edition of the “Green Building Congress” at the Chennai Trade Centre here this month.
Over 800 participants, including high profile architects, senior consultants, builders, contractors along with facility management groups, corporate, government representatives and institutions are expected to participate in the Congress, which is scheduled to be held from September 19 to 22.India has been witnessing rapid growth in infrastructure development. The construction sector has become the second largest sector, growing at an average rate of 9.5 percent as compared to the global average of five percent.
While this growth is welcome, the sector should grow in a sustainable manner with minimum impact on the environment.
The Green Building Movement spearheaded by CII is advancing rapidly and is well poised for a phenomenal growth. With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq. ft of green footprint in the country in the year 2003, green buildings of over 25 million sq. ft are being constructed spread across the country.
Dr M S Swaminathan will be the chief guest at the inaugural session.
