 Christmas Tree Syndrome

Who would think that the Christmas tree synonymous with heralding the festive season would be associated with allergies and health conditions?

Nearly 53 cases of mould was discovered when researchers analyzed clippings of 28 Christmas trees including the needles and bark. They said this could make people prone to allergies like wheezing and coughing.

The mould growing on trees and the spores on them could cause problems when inhaled and result in symptoms such as watery eyes, itchy nose, chest pains, shortness of breath, fatigue and insomnia.

Some of the moulds can even cause long term lung problems and severe conditions like bronchitis and pneumonia.
