Cholera Outbreak Claims 10 Lives in Zimbabwe
Cholera outbreak has killed ten people in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare after drinking contaminated water, reports a city health official.
Harare city council has tried to supply water to some suburbs for more than a decade, making residents to rely on water from open wells and community boreholes.

Clemence Duri, Harare city’s health director said over 300 people had been hospitalized after getting the waterborne disease which causes severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration.

“The death toll has risen to ten. We have established that the outbreak was caused by a burst sewer pipe which contaminated borehole water,” said Duri. The pipe had been replaced, He added.

In 2008, Zimbabwe suffered its biggest cholera outbreak in which more than 4,000 people died, and another 40,000 became ill.
