China Will Set Up Its First Yoga College at the Yunnan University of Nationalities

Yoga is an ancient Indian science for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of an individual. It is practiced worldwide. Reportedly, China is all set to start its first yoga college at the Yunnan University of Nationalities. During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China from May 14 to 16, 2015, the Yunnan University of Nationalities and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations signed a cooperation memorandum for the yoga college on May 15, 2015.

The memorandum has been listed in the China-India joint statement. The yoga college is expected to spread Indian culture in China and plans to begin student admissions in September.

The yoga college will invite yoga teachers from India to preside over courses at different levels of difficulty. Other than yoga practice, the college will also offer other courses on Indian culture and philosophy. All students who enroll in the college will have the chance to study at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, located in the Indian capital of New Delhi. Students who qualify will be granted international yoga training certificates.

The yoga college is designed to provide a platform for China and India to improve their cooperation and understanding in areas of culture and education. It is also aimed to help carry out the strategy of the Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) Economic Corridor.
