Cheap Online Medications may Increase Risk of Heart Attack
Medical experts in Australia have warned the general public not to buy medications online, stating that cheap medicines available on the internet contain banned ingredients which increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has asked the federal government to issue a formal warning to the public and said that not doing so increases the public health cost. The Guild also said that buying anti-psychotic drugs online could hide the symptoms of mental illnesses without getting the correct treatment.

Guild president Kos Sclavos said that while people may save 80-90 percent when buying some medicines online while there is a great danger that the medicines could be counterfeit. Mr Sclavos said that the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has received a number of reports of counterfeit medicines being bought online.

“Consumers of counterfeit medicines risk unexpected or potentially serious adverse reactions and also suffer harm from leaving a serious medical condition untreated or inappropriately treated”, a TGA spokeswoman said.
