Chandigarh Mayor Finds Dead Lizard in Mid-Day Meal at an Anganwadi
The Mid-day Meal program is a school meal scheme of the Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children in the country. Chandigarh Mayor Poonam Sharma was shocked to find a dead lizard in the mid-day meal food which was to be served to toddlers and pregnant women at a government-run center in the union territory.
The dead lizard was found in the food which was to be served at the Aanganwadi center in Mauli Jagran colony of Chandigarh. A spokesman of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation said, "The mayor arrived at the center after receiving a phone call regarding pathetic conditions there. All the children and pregnant women were found sitting in unhygienic conditions."

Chandigarh has nearly 500 Aanganwadi centers out of which 30 are located in Mauli Jagran colony. The mayor informed UT Administrator's Advisor Vijay Dev about the incident and the appalling conditions at the Aanganwadi centers and sought a probe into the incident and poor condition of these centers.
