The Centre has allowed the Odisha state government to add 64 more postgraduate seats in the three government medical colleges of the state, based on recommendation of the Medical Council of India (MCI).
While 22 seats have been increased at the MKCG, Berhampur, 24 seats have been added to the SCB Medical College, Cuttack, and 18 seats have been enhanced at the VSS Medical College, Burla.

Official sources said that the total number of medical seats in the state has gone up from 207 to 271 with this allotment. The enhanced number of seats will be made available for students from the academic year 2015-16.

"The state government had requested the council to enhance the number of seats in the three government-run medical colleges last year. On the state's request, the council had made a recommendation to the Union ministry of health and family welfare. The increase in the number of seats at the PG level will help meet the dearth of the medical graduates in the state," said Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.
