Cartoon Figures on Food Packages Attract Children
It seems as if the brand management wizards know the pulse of kids. Many food items, especially the ones meant for children have cartoon characters on the packaging and now a recent study has provided a good reason for this marketing trend.
During a study conducted by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, children were asked to taste cereals from packages which had cartoon characters on it, and also from plain packages. They were informed about the brand of cereal in the boxes and were asked to voice their preferences.

The study revealed that children preferred cereals from boxes with cartoon characters rather than the cereals in plain packaged boxes.

Sarah Vaala, one of the lead authors, said, "When there was a character on the box, they liked the cereal a lot, and it didn't matter what the name of the cereal was. Once you put a character on the box that overrides their judgment of the health merits of the food."
