Care Homes Do Not Provide Proper Nutrition to Elderly Inmates

A report by the Care Commission in Scotland has found that most care home do not provide the requisite nutrition to elderly patients. More than 50% of homes did not screen their inhabitants for malnutrition, while over 30% did not screen for dehydration.

The Commission also said that 76 of 91 complaints made to it in 2006 to 2007 were related to this issue and were also upheld. It said the government must do something about the issue of nutrition in care homes.

"This report aims to make people aware of the standards of good practice we expect all care homes to follow.
