Can We Get Any More Intelligent or Have We Touched the Limit?

The evolution of the human brain for millions of years has resulted in improved cognitive abilities and functions, making us what we are today.

Unfortunately, all this has come with a price say scientists at the University of Warwick and University of Basel. On a quest to know whether we are getting any more intelligent than we already are or have we reached the peak in intelligence, scientists found that this may truly be our best and anything better than this will prove costly.

Scientists found that there is a flip side to improved brain function and cognitive abilities. People with extremely high IQ, enhanced memory and cognitive abilities suffer from associated and debilitating neural disorders such as autism or even synaesthesia. These disorders are connected to enhanced brain growth.

"These kinds of studies suggest there is an upper limit to how much people can or should improve their mental functions like attention, memory or intelligence. In other words, there is a 'sweet spot' in terms of enhancing our mental abilities. If you go beyond that spot - just like in the fairy-tales - you have to pay the price", researchers said.
