 Can Beetroots Make Burgers Healthier?
Researchers from University of Aberdeen are currently conducting a new study to test whether adding beetroot could make burgers healthier.
Eating lots of burgers may lead to oxidation in the stomach which breaks down the ingredients into toxic compounds which are linked to the increased risk of heart disease and cancer.

The researchers hope that adding beetroot, which is rich in anti-oxidants, can prevent the body from absorbing these toxic compounds.

The researchers are currently looking to recruit male volunteers between 21 and 60 years of age to take part in the study. “Processed food forms a major and increasing part of our diet. Consumption of high fat convenience foods in Scotland increases year by year. We are looking to identify if adding a vegetable extract to processed food can actually protect the body from absorbing the 'bad' fats which exist in these types of products”, lead researcher Professor Garry Duthie said.
