Campaign 'Daughters Against Dowry' to be Launched

Ministry Women and Child Development is observing International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Wednesday, 25th November 2009. On this occasion, a campaign for change in daughters' perspective 'Daughters against Dowry' will be //launched. A National seminar is also being organized on "Implementation Of Dowry Prohibition Act".

Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Minister for Home Affairs and Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law & Justice will address the Plenary Session of the seminar while Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister for Women and Child Development will preside over it.

Around 500 girl students from different schools in Delhi along with their teachers will be sensitized on various aspects of the Dowry Prohibition Act: Issues and Challenges on the occasion.

The launch of the campaign will follow with four Break-out Sessions to have a threadbare discussion on various aspects of the Dowry Prohibition Act like- existing legal framework on dowry and its strengthening, social awareness generation, advocacy and media, medical treatment and care and rehabilitation of dowry victims.

Experts from various walks of life will participate in sessions and will come out with recommendations for bringing in further improvements in the Act.
