Sharon, 56, has struggled with bulimia and compulsive eating for years and thinks she will always feel insecure about gaining extra pounds in spite of having been able to keep her weight under check after undergoing a gastric band surgery in 1999.

"I used it (food) as a shield. It was a way to fend off rejection: you'll never want me, look how fat I am. I'll be the fat, funny one," she added.
