Budget-friendly Touch Screen Glucometer Gets FDA Approval, Costs Just $25
Abbott has planned to release its budget-conscious FreeStyle Precision Neo blood glucometer having received FDA clearance. The device can be purchased without a prescription and costs around $25 for the unit and about $15 for 25 test strips.
The Freestyle Precision Neo comes with some high-end features though it is a cheap glucometer. A touch screen E-Ink display (think Kindle), an internal memory that stores up to 1,000 readings, and a quick five-second-test time makes the glucometer standout among others. Also, the test strips don’t require coding, so the glucometer is effectively ready to go straight out of the box.

Glucometer is the most useful device for self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG). A chemical is present on the test strip, which produces a colour on contact with glucose. The meter measures this color intensity and the level of glucose present is expressed in mg/dl.
