BSF Personnel Suffering from Lack of Sleep: Study

A recent study initiated by the Home Ministry in India revealed that nearly three-fourths of Border Security Force personnel do not get adequate sleep and face abusive behavior from their superior officers.

According to the report, more than 70 percent of the soldiers are able to sleep for just four hours, leading to exhaustion and poor performance.

Moreover the abusive behavior from superior officers increases the stress levels of the soldiers. Around 161 jawans from both western and eastern borders were included in the study.

The report urged the urgent need for trained counselors and psychiatrists in order to help the soldiers overcome their problems. "These cases only reflect the persons who have broken down, but there are a large number of persons who are suffering badly and may be leading towards a breakdown immediately. There is an urgent requirement of providing trained counselors and psychologist/psychiatrists who can handle the issue in a professional manner", the report said.
