Britain's Youngest Organ Donor Survived for 100 Minutes to Donate His Kidneys

Britain
Jess Evans and Mike Houlston were aware that their baby boy would not survive a day or two longer and decided to donate his organs.
Teddy, the new born is the youngest organ donor in Britain. Teddy will always be a hero to his parents though his tiny body was only strong enough to live for a matter of minutes.

During the 12th week of pregnancy, doctors told Evans that one of her twins had anencephaly, the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp. But as they battled to come to terms with the tragedy, Evans and Houlston decided to explore whether there was any chance Teddy could become an organ donor.

Evans, 28, said, “Although he wasn’t with us very long, and we brought him into the world knowing there was no hope of a life for him, we are incredibly proud of his heroism."

Teddy died within two hours of his birth but his kidneys and heart valves were harvested for donation.

Houlston, 30, said, “He lived and died a hero. It’s impossible to explain how proud we are of him. We hope Teddy’s story will inspire families who find themselves in the position of losing a child. Knowing part of your loved one is living on in someone else is comforting.”

Evans and Houlston have now set up ’2 Wish Upon A Star’, a JustGiving page in Teddy’s honour to raise money for the charity. The couple encourage people to help raise money for the charity, which aims to improve bereavement services for parents who lose babies or young children.
