Brit Man Offers Money In Will To Towns With His Surname!

by Tanya Thomas on Dec 10 2009 8:18 AM

Generous or eccentric? Decide that after reading this. A British man is said to have left 220,000 pounds in his will to towns across the world, which share the same surname as his.

The Douglas Borough Council on the Isle of Man received a cheque for 10,887 pounds from solicitors acting for Eric Gordon Douglas.

The council has appealed for more information on their benefactor Douglas from Edinburgh.

"There were 20 places across the globe with his name," the Daily Express quoted Council leader David Christian as saying.

"We know nothing about the gentleman and it would be nice to recognise him. Unfortunately the will doesn't stipulate what we should spend it on. But we will definitely put it to good use.

"A nice quiet area in his memory would be a good idea," he said.

Colleague David Ashford added: "We do get bequests but it's rare for someone who has not got an association with the area to leave something."
