Brit Beauty Contestant Warns of Skin Cancer Risk With Sunbathing

A British beauty contestant has warned the risks of constant sunbathing after she was diagnosed with skin cancer after spending a number of years getting artificial tan. Amy Hills, who was a Miss York finalist, revealed that she often had an artificial tan at least once a week without using any sun screen. However after a few years she noticed that a mole on her arm had changed its appearance and brought it to the notice of her doctor.

After performing a series of tests, the doctors revealed that the mole was cancerous and she had to undergo surgery which prevented the further spread of the disease.

“The doctor called in with a colleague to have a look, and they both said it needed to be removed as a matter of urgency. When the test results came back saying it  was cancer I was in a state of shock. The doctors said they were sure it was it was my sunbed sessions and sunbathing without lotion that had led to this”, she said.

Though the surgery was successful, the 24-year old will now have to make constant trips to her doctor in order to make sure that the cancer has not returned.
