Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Doctors Take Up the Cause of Reaching Out to Women
Independent studies in Vadodara, the third largest city in the Western Indian State of Gujarat, reveal that 45 women in a population of every 100,000 are prone to breast cancer.
With this in mind, doctors have taken up the cause of reaching out to women across the city to mark the ongoing Breast Cancer Awareness month.

According to the health experts here, the number of cancer cases among women has also shown a steep increase in the past few years. They believe that breast cancer will become one of the major health concerns among women.

"The rise in the cases is largely because of the lifestyle changes in the society. Apart from the eating habits, which is affecting the population at large, the changed reproductive cycle of women has also led to the rise," said oncologist Dr Vibha Naik.

Naik also said that women now opt to have children only after their late twenties.

“Therefore, oestrogen, an important female hormone, is produced continuously for two decades. Since oestrogen is a steroid it increases the chances of cancer. This is a hurdle that the medical science has to find a way around,” Naik added.
