Botox Helps British Granny to Speak After 14 Years!

After 14 years of silence, a British grandmother as gotten her voice back, thanks to botox - a procedure normally used for beauty treatments.

Phyllis Yates left doctors baffled after she woke up one morning in 1993 and suddenly found herself unable to speak.

In November last year, the 73-year-old was diagnosed as having laryngeal dystonia, a condition where the muscles around the voice box spasm.

Doctors then started performing the pioneering procedure of injecting botox, more commonly used by doctors to smooth out facial wrinkles, into her voice box.

Phyllis was overcome with emotion as she gradually regained the ability to speak.

"I was getting so frustrated. I kept passing out with tears falling down my face because I couldn't ask for a cup of tea or anything. Now I've got a lot to catch up on. I'm putting my husband in his place,” News.com.au quoted Phyllis, as saying.

Phyllis, who lives in Suffolk with her husband George, said that was delighted after being able to finally talk to her granddaughters, Donna, 13, and Leanne, 11, for the first time.

"I couldn't speak when my granddaughters were born, now finally I can tell them that I love them," she said.
